The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) General Command announced its victory over ISIS at the Omar Oil Field in Deir ez-Zor on 23 March, thus ending the ISIS occupation of Northern and Eastern Syria.
Afrin Democratic Student Movement held a press conference in Shehba.
Hêva Haşim, executive member of the Democratic Student Movement, said in the statement that the history of the Kurdish people was marked by resistance and heroism, and that resistance always prevailed in spite of all pressures.
Describing March as the month of victory, the statement said: “History has repeated itself once again. Just as Kawa was able to free the peoples from the tyrant Dehaq so the SDF saved the peoples from ISIS atrocity on the same Newroz day.”
Underlining the hunger strike actions led by Leyla Güven, Haşim stressed that this resistance would achieve the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
The statement ended with the following remarks: “As Afrin students, we salute and congratulate the victory of the SDF, and we commend Leyla Güven and her comrades for their hunger strike resistance.”
The students then called on “the international public and humanitarian organizations to take action to ensure the demands of the hunger strikers are met and to take the necessary measures for their lives. We also call for action to ensure the end of the Turkish occupation and the liberation of Afrin.”
