Autonomous Administration calls for urgent international action for Tishrin Dam

In the face of the increasingly ongoing Turkish attacks against Tishrin Dam, the Energy Department of AANES called on international organizations to take urgent action against environmental and humanitarian disasters.

The occupying Turkish state and allied mercenaries have been attacking North-East Syria since 27 November. One of the targets of the intensified attacks since 8 December has been the Tishrin Dam and its surroundings.

The Energy Department of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) stated that the Turkish state has been targeting the Tishrin Dam with airstrikes and heavy weapons for more than 40 days and warned against possible humanitarian and environmental disasters in the event that the dam collapses.

The Energy Department called on international organizations, especially the Red Cross and UNICEF, to take urgent action to stop the attacks and protect the dam. It stated that inspections at the dam should be increased and infrastructure repairs should be started as soon as possible to prevent power outages.

Remarking that expert teams should inspect the dam and determine the damage caused by the attacks, the Energy Department emphasised that serious environmental and humanitarian disasters are inevitable if the attacks continue.
