Dozens killed in prisons run by the Transitional Government

SOHR reported that dozens of detainees have been killed in prisons controlled by the Transitional Government in Damascus, while the fate of thousands of others remains unknown.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the deaths of 58 detainees as a result of torture in prisons affiliated with the Syrian Transitional Government have been documented.

SOHR said that around 8,000 detainees have been held for more than nine months in the prisons of Hama, Homs, Adra, Harim, Afrin, and al-Rai.

The statement noted that detainees, many of whom were arrested without clear justification or charges, are living in harsh conditions and deprived of basic rights such as access to food. It was also reported that prison officials have demanded money from detainees’ families under the pretext of "improving prison conditions".
