ANHA visited Martyr Qehreman Efrîn High School in the Sheikh Maqsoud (Şêxmeqsud) neighbourhood of Aleppo and observed the problems experienced due to the embargo. It was observed that there was a fuel problem due to the embargo imposed by the Damascus government on the region. Since there was no fuel in the school for heating the students, the stove was not installed.
The the Democratic Society Education Committee (KPC-D) continues its educational activities in Aleppo despite the difficult conditions and circumstances. Due to the lack of heating facilities, students experience very difficult days. Primary and secondary school students under 15 years of age are more affected. With the arrival of winter, diseases have spread among children.
A while ago, the Education and Training Board of the Autonomous Administration of Afrin and Shehba Cantons suspended education due to transport and heating problems caused by the blockade.
KPC-D Co-Chairman Menan Cafar said that students and teachers were suffering because of the spread of diseases among them. Menan Cafar said that they put all available solutions and suggestions into action, but they could not provide enough diesel oil. Menan Cafar stated that the fuel they procured would not be enough for the three schools and Martyr Zozan Yusif Higher School.
Reacting to the embargo policies of the Damascus government, Menan Jafar said, "The blockade also affects the situation of students because heating is vital for children. The number of sick children has increased due to the Damascus government's embargo on Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah neighbourhoods. The services of the municipality have been delayed."
