Mustafa: Öcalan's freedom must be ensured

Lawyer Cibraîl Mustafa, a member of the Syrian Lawyers’ Initiative for Abdullah Öcalan, emphasized the necessity of securing the freedom of the Kurdish people's leader.
Lawyer Cibraîl Mustafa spoke to ANF about15 February 1999 (the day Abdullah Öcalan was abducted in Kenya as a result of the international conspiracy) and said: "This year, the Kurdish people are marking the 26th anniversary of the international conspiracy. The isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan 26 years ago was thwarted by our people's resistance and determination. For years, Abdullah Öcalan has been deprived of even his most basic rights. He has been completely denied access to his family and lawyers. The operations carried out against him had a major impact on an international level. The Turkish state uses such tactics as a strategy to break the Kurdish people's resistance. However, the purpose of this conspiracy is crystal clear.
The Turkish state failed to suppress Kurdish uprisings in the past with brutal oppression, and now it seeks to implement the same policies again. Through Mr. Öcalan, they aim to eliminate the Kurdish people. But this objective has been defeated by the faith and will of the Kurdish people. The people's resistance and struggle against the conspiracy targeting Mr. Öcalan continues, strengthening the Kurdish people's hope for victory."
Öcalan must be free for a solution to the Kurdish issue
Mustafa added that Abdullah Öcalan initiated a new phase of resistance in Imrali Prison with the idea of a ‘democratic nation’. "The Kurdish question has gone through a long process in which occupying and oppressive systems in Kurdistan have sought to suppress the people's struggle for freedom. This has become a global issue. Abdullah Öcalan’s ideas and resistance argue that true peace in the Middle East can only be achieved through a political resolution of the Kurdish issue. Moreover, to address this question, Mr. Öcalan has presented the Democratic Nation project as a solution for coexistence among the Kurdish people and all peoples, particularly in Rojava and other parts of the Middle East. The Turkish state claims in its statements that it has ‘eliminated the PKK.’ However, they know very well that there is no alternative to a political solution. Therefore, the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan must end, his physical freedom must be ensured, and the path to a solution must be opened. Otherwise, the fate of the Turkish state will be no different from that of other occupying states."
Turkey continues to violate human rights
Cibraîl Mustafa continued: "If the Turkish state is making calls for peace today, it is proof that Abdullah Öcalan has achieved success in Imrali. This can be seen as a result of the victory he has won through his resistance there. Turkey's so-called peace calls are a direct consequence of Abdullah Öcalan’s struggle and long-standing efforts for a resolution. However, the Turkish state is not taking any serious steps in this regard because it seeks to repeat the experiences of 2013 and 2015.
At that time, Abdullah Öcalan was also calling for peace and a resolution to the Kurdish issue. The stance of the Turkish state and the AKP government is not sincere. Their words and actions contradict each other. On the one hand, they talk about peace, yet on the other, they continue to arrest Kurds and carry out military operations in Kurdish regions. Furthermore, the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan persists, and the Turkish state continues its crimes against the Kurdish people. This clearly demonstrates the insincerity of the AKP government."
Lawyer Mustafa stated that support for Abdullah Öcalan is increasing every day and that this movement is having a global impact. He also emphasized that the Turkish state continues to violate human rights, referring to a United Nations report that documented human rights violations in Imrali Prison between 2015 and 2017.
Mustafa emphasized the result of Abdullah Öcalan’s struggle and the Turkish state eventually accepted a request for a meeting with Ömer Öcalan and DEM Party deputies. He explained: "During this meeting, crucial issues were addressed, particularly the ongoing isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan. This demonstrates the lack of genuine conditions for dialogue. However, Abdullah Öcalan affirmed that he has political proposals for establishing peace in the Middle East and stressed that a peaceful resolution to the Kurdish issue within Turkey is both possible and necessary."
A global solution depends on Abdullah Öcalan
Mustafa said that if Turkey truly seeks peace, it must secure Abdullah Öcalan’s physical freedom. He continued: "Real peace can only be achieved through Abdullah Öcalan’s physical freedom. This will only be possible within a framework involving the United Nations, international organizations, and the participation of all political parties in Turkey. The AKP does not genuinely represent the will of the Turkish people; many democratic parties oppose its oppressive policies.
Furthermore, all civil society organizations must be prepared to contribute to this peace process on a constitutional basis. The Turkish constitution still does not recognize the existence of Kurdish people. How can peace be established within a legal framework that denies Kurdish identity and their rights? According to recent reports, Abdullah Öcalan is expected to issue a statement on February 15 regarding a resolution to the Kurdish issue and the peace process with the Turkish state. It is also expected to address various issues, including the situation in Rojava and the Israel-Palestine conflict. Ultimately, the Turkish state’s decades-long conspiracies, imprisonments, and isolation policies have completely failed. Turkey must now recognize that lasting peace in the Middle East and a resolution to the Turkish-Kurdish issue can only be achieved through Abdullah Öcalan."
