Tens of thousands joined the celebrations to welcome Newroz on Mishtenur Hill in Kobane.

Speaking at the ceremony, North and East Syrian Executive Council Co-president Ebid Hamid Mehbaş said the following;

“The terror of DAESH (ISIS) terrorist organization was shattered thanks to the resistance of Kobane people and this became the beginning of the end for DAESH. Today, terror is ending thanks to the SDF and we are celebrating Newroz with these historic successes. Tens of thousands of us have fallen as martyrs. We promise to follow in the footsteps of our martyrs and protect our gains.”

Journalist and author Debbie Bookchin, daughter of social revolutionary and radical thinker Murray Bookchin, also attended the celebration in Kobane. She celebrated Newroz for all the Kurdish people.

PYD (Democratic Union Party) General Assembly member Ehmed Xoce, speaking on behalf of 19 political parties in North and East syria, pointed out the great achievements made against ISIS mercenaries at this year’s Newroz, describing the current process as “historic”.

After music and folklore performances, the Newroz celebration ended with traditional dance halay.
