Tens of thousands in Kobane have gathered on the Mishtenur Hill, of symbolic importance in the fight against ISIS mercenaries, to welcome the Kurdish New Year, Newroz.
This year’s celebration in Kobanê, fortress of the battle against ISIS, is taking place under the motto “Let’s break the isolation with the spirit of Newroz, let’s free Afrin”.
In several cities in Cizire region, celebrations have kicked off under the same motto.
In Qamishlo, people started to fill the Newroz grounds starting from early morning hours. The area is decorated with the flags of TEV-DEM, YPG-YPJ, SDF and Kongreya Star and security is maintained by Internal Security Forces and HPC units.
The Newroz fire was lit by mothers of martyrs. The celebration will witness speeches by various representatives.
Thousands are welcoming Newroz in the city of Derik as well. After the Newroz fire was lit by mothers of martyrs, Abdullah Öcalan’s evaluations on Newroz were televised.
In Amude, celebrations started after mothers lit the Newroz fire in the Çaxir village where thousands are welcoming the New Year. The area has been decorated with YPG, YPJ and SDF flags.
