Number of corona deaths in northeast Syria increases

A person infected with the coronavirus has died in the town of Amude in northern Syria. The number of pandemic deaths in the autonomous region has thus risen to 34. There are 527 confirmed cases of infection.

The corona pandemic continues to spread in the northeast Syrian autonomous region. According to current information from Ciwan Mistefa, the co-chair of the local government health committee, the number of detected cases of infection has risen by 19 to 527 within 24 hours. A 52-year-old man infected with the virus has died in Amude.

So far, 34 people infected with the novel coronavirus have died in northern and eastern Syria. 88 infected persons are considered to have recovered. Of the 19 new infections, six each have been detected in Qamishlo and Hesekê, four in Dêrik, two in Dirbêsiyê and one in Til Koçer.

Thanks to early contact restrictions, the autonomous regions initially had the pandemic well under control and were able to seal themselves off successfully for months - largely closed borders and strict quarantine conditions kept the virus away. Since the end of July, the number of cases of people infected with the corona virus has been rising daily.
