The occupying troops obviously aim to starve the contested region of Ain Issa. They plundered 111,000 tons of wheat from the silos in Shergirak and Mishrafet, depriving the region of a large part of its food supplies. The harvest of the year had been stored in the depots. Girê Spî, Ain Issa and Manbij had been supplied with grain from the depots.
Shergirak is the largest grain depot in the region. It is located about 15 kilometers north of Ain Issa on the international road M4. The depot had already been occupied on 17 October but had since been cleared under an agreement with Russia and then occupied again. Dozens of lorries transported the grain.
One of those responsible for the silos is Mihemed Ebdo. According to him, there were about 16,000 tons of wheat and 25,000 tons of barley in the silo. Before the invasion, about 30 tons of grain had been distributed daily to the bakeries in the towns and villages of the region.
