At a demonstration in Derik in northeast Syria on Saturday, numerous people called on the South Kurdistan regional government in Hewler (Erbil) to take a clear stance against Turkish expansionism. All other Kurdish forces were also called upon to adopt a stand against Turkey's attacks on Kurdistan. The participants of the event appealed to the international public to show solidarity with the guerrilla resistance in Heftanin.
The demonstration started at Azadi Square and continued through the city center. Most of the participants were women who transformed the procession into a colorful sea of flags of various movements and organizations.
The march ended at the Martyrs’ Square with a rally in which Asya Yusif of Kongreya Star, the umbrella organization of the women's movement in the autonomous region of North and East Syria, participated with a speech. Yusif said that with regard to the Turkish occupation attacks in Heftanin, that Hewler must finally fulfill his "historic responsibility" to stand up for Kurdistan.
The activist condemned the pro-Turkish attitude of the ruling KDP in South Kurdistan and called on those in charge to stop their support to Ankara. The demonstration was ended with the slogan "Long live the resistance of Heftanin".
