People of Sherawa fulfill their needs through village communes

Due to the invading Turkish army and their allied gangs’ occupation in Afrin, many fundamental items can’t be acquired in the villages of the Sherawa district. The people in the villages have overcome this hardship through commune organizations.

The invading Turkish army and their allied gangs have failed to occupy the Mezin, Beshamre, Birj Al Qas and Meysa villages in Afrin’s Sherawa district. Failing to occupy the area, the invaders have put up a blockade to prevent the people from meeting their needs in the villages.

Birj Heder, Berad, Kibeshin, Kefer Nebo and Pasufan villages can’t receive various necessity items since the Turkish state and their allied gangs started the occupation. Meanwhile the invading Turkish army has been attacking these villages with mortars, and the Birj Al Qas village was the most recent to be bombed.

Another reason these villages can’t receive aid is the Syrian regime-controlled checkpoints between Shehba and the Sherawa district.

The Birj Al Qas village is one of the biggest villages in the Sherawa district. The invading Turkish army and their allied gangs have confiscated the property of dozens of families, and the families have had to settle in this village afterwards.

The villagers buy their necessities in the Nibleye province. Each bag of bread, which contains 14 loaves, is sold for 200 Syrian Liras.

Despite many hardships, the village communes continue to serve the people. Village communes have procured generators for the Gunde Mezin, Kilute, Zirinit and Meyase villages and put up power lines to all houses in the village.

Villagers drink the water from the previously dug wells. Village communes also opened a medical center with support from Heyva Sor a Kurd to provide services.

Meanwhile, with the onset of winter, villagers are in need of winter equipment.

A citizen named Eziz Nebo who settled in the Kimare village called on aid organizations to support them with winter necessities: “Our needs have increased with the onset of winter. We couldn’t take anything with us when we left our homes. The commune supports us, but it’s not enough.”

Birj Al-Qas village Commune Co-chair Heyder Nasro said they provide support for the people with their limited resources: “The aid we provide isn’t enough for the people. The aid coming from the Shehba region are not allowed through regime checkpoints. Despite everything, we try to support the people.”
