Prisoners' Families from Afrin condemn Turkey' stance on prisons

The families of prisoners from Afrin said that the Turkish state have invited death to prisons, as it has not released political prisoners. The families called on international organisations to put pressure on Turkey before is too late.

The coronavirus continues to spread all over the world. Prisoners have been released in many countries, given that jails provide a favourable environment for the virus to spread.

The Turkish state, however, has taken no measures. There are rumors that the new package to be presented by the AKP government will include the release of common prisoners, but not political prisoners.

From Shehba, the families of Afrin prisoners said: "First of all, Leader Apo and all political prisoners must be released. Great measures have been taken against this virus all over the world. Many states, including Iran, have released prisoners, knowing that a massacre will occur if the coronavirus enter prisons. We call on all international human rights institutions and health care organizations to stand up and take a stance against the current policy of the Turkish state on prisons.

The families underlined that according to the government proposals leaked by the press, common prisoners, and criminal such as ISIS members will be released while political prisoners and those in prison for their thoughts will remain in jail.
