The second academic year of the Rojava University was celebrated on Thursday.
Some hundred people attended the celebration. The Rojava University opened in Qamishlo on 5 July 2016, one of the project carried out by the Cizire Canton Democratic Autonomous Administration.
The university administration celebrated the second anniversary of the foundation of the academic institution together with hundreds of teachers and students.
Salih Heydo, one of the teachers of Kurdish literature at the university, said that the opening of the university was possible thanks to the work of the martyrs.
Heydo read some poetry in Kurdish while members of the Mihemed Şexo Culture and Arts Centre played some music. Th people danced the traditional Kurdish dance halay.
"We know that the Rojava University has made the hopes of Northers Syrian students come true”, student Mihemed Ehmed told ANHA news agency, adding that the number of students is increasing.
Among the achievements reached by Kurds in Rojava since the 19 July 2012 revolution, certainly is the establishment of a new education system.
This new curriculum and system based first and foremost on the right to be educated in one’s mother tongue, is one of the great achievements the Turkish state wants to destroy, and one the Baath regime in Syria had suppressed till 2012.
Before the Rojava Revolution began, the Baath regime had indeed imposed a de facto ban not just on the Kurdish language but in fact on any element of Kurdishness.
