The fight against terror in eastern Syria is coming to an end. The last remnants of the so-called Islamic State jihadist militia are circled within a few hundred square meters in the village of Baghouz, southeast of Hajin. Since the 9th of February, the final operation of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), “Operation Cizire Storm”, on the border with Iraq has been going on.

In addition to tens of thousands of civilians, who could be rescued from the last retreat areas of the extremist militia through an escape corridor established by the SDF, captured fighters are also freed. After the three fighters last week, today another seven fighters have been freed from captivity of the ISIS in Baghouz.

The rescued fighters Ibrahim al-Ahmad, Muhammad al-Sheikh, Muhammad al-Abdullah, Malik al-Abdullah al-Hussein, Muhammad al-Ahmad al-Khalil, Ahmed al-Marai and Fatah al-Awda have been brought to Raqqa where they were received by their families with cheers.

According to SDF commander Kendal Reqa, the now freed fighters had been ambushed by the Islamists and taken away. Special Forces of the SDF led the operation for their liberation.

Kendal Reqa also announced that the "Cizirê Storm" offensive will be completed in a matter of days. "East Syria will soon be completely free from ISIS terror," said the SDF commander.
