Consuelo Nuñez from the International Peace Mothers Initiative’s 7 person committee visited Rojava and said, “Right now what we need to do is respond to the people of Afrin’s hope to return to their land.”

A 7 person committee from the International Peace Mothers Initiative visited Rojava. Consuelo Nuñez, feminist spokesperson from the Spanish capital Madrid, spoke to the ANF about her impressions from Rojava. Nuñez started her words by stating that the Turkish state is violating human rights under the lead of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and spoke about the hardships the people had to endure after the invasion of Afrin.

Nuñez spoke about the torture and tyranny by the Turkish state in Afrin: “Right now what we need to do is respond to the people of Afrin’s hope to return to their lands. Families have been torn apart. Mothers, fathers, children, they have been torn away from each other, there’s no tolerance for even families living together. That is why we must respond to the calls the mothers in Afrin make.”

“THE EXTENT OF WOMEN’S FREEDOM RESISTANCE IS IMPRESSIVE”

Consuela Nuñez spoke about what impressed her the most in the Rojava visit: “When we first heard of the Rojava revolution, we were intrigued. I translated some articles into Spanish and prepared documentaries. We were working all the time especially during the Afrin process. Something I was most impressed by was the women’s freedom resistance and it encompassing the whole of society.

In our visits here I saw for myself how the society comes together around Leader Apo’s philosophy and create a unity. I understood the fragmentation of society in Europe and how individualist approaches prevent society building and coming together.”

“I WAS PROUD OF MY DAUGHTER WHO JOINED THE REVOLUTION”

Nuñez stressed that seeing women and families from Afrin in the visit and meeting them left a big impression: “The people are forced out of their lands. Meanwhile Erdogan takes money from foreign states using the refugees as an excuse. He wants to join the European Union, but he continues to trample human rights.

Consuela Nuñez said her own daughter followed events in Northern Kurdistan as a journalist and got to know the Kurdish people’s resistance and the Women’s Freedom Struggle. Nuñez said the following on her daughter joining the Rojava Revolution: “When my daughter got to know the Kurdish resistance and the Women’s Freedom Struggle, a deep love developed in her for them. When she said she wanted to go to Rojava, as a mother I was afraid for her about how she would live in war conditions. But then I visited and saw that she is happy, she has found meaning. That made me very happy and proud as a mother. So I decided to follow my daughter on this path.”
