Thousands bid farewell to Derik martyrs

Thousands of people from the Cizire region bid farewell to those who were martyred in the Derik massacre.

Masses joined a convoy from Dêrik Hospital to the Martyr Xebat Dêrik Cemetery to bid the final farewell to the martyrs killed in a series of Turkish attacks on Saturday night.

The names of the 11 martyrs who laid to rest are: Îsam Ebdullah, Hisên Elî, Çîçek Harûnî, Hilal Qasim, Hediye Ebdullah, Ubêd Xalid, Mehmûd Elî, Fayîz Ebdullah, Nûrî Çiftcî, Hisên Xilto and Mazin Osê.

Carrying the coffins of the martyrs on their shoulders, the crowd chanted slogans in praise of the martyrs and resistance.

Ciwan Ali, a member of the Martyrs' Families Assembly, offered condolences to the families of the martyrs and vowed that they would follow in the footsteps of the martyrs and realize their dream of freedom.

“Your presence here defies the claims of Erdogan, who denies the existence of the Kurds. Your presence here demonstrates that the Kurds exist and have a will,” Kongra Star Coordination member Cihan Hisen said to the people of Cizire in a brief speech.

'WE SHOULD EXPAND STRUGGLE WITH MIGHT AND MAIN'

“Dêrik has always been praised for the struggle and the resistance of its children in the history of the Rojava revolution,” Hisên said.

“We will not tolerate another Lausanne; we will not live in captivity. We must expand the struggle with all might and main,” she added.

Cizire Region Democratic Autonomous Administration Executive Council Co-Chair Talet Yûnis expressed concern over the chemical attacks by the Turkish state. “International forces are witnesses and responsible for the crimes against our people. They are partners to the bloodshed of our people.”

Yunis remarked that they were ready for a dialogue with all parties to find a democratic solution in Syria and to end the Turkish occupation.

The martyrdom documents of the 11 martyrs were read out and delivered to their families before the martyrs were laid to rest under slogans.
