Three YPJ fighters martyred in the battle of Qereqozak

YPJ fighters Tolvin Şahin, Beritan Amanos, and Parvin Hasakah fought relentlessly in the great battle of Qereqozak against occupation and mercenaries of the Turkish occupying state.

The General Command of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) released a statement announcing the death of three of their fighters.

The YPJ statement on Monday includes the following:

"The Turkish occupying state, through its mercenaries, has waged a war that has lasted over a month, attacking regions in northeastern Syria in an attempt to seize control of the Tishrin Dam and the Qara Qozak area. These attacks have endangered the lives and security of our people. In this context, amidst military operations, heinous crimes are being committed.

In the face of these aggressive acts and violations, the fighters for freedom, led by the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), are writing the history of resistance and the dignity of peoples. They affirm that the will of the people is greater and stronger than all forms of aggression, dirty alliances, and conspiracies.

During these attacks, many freedom fighters fell as martyrs, becoming beacons of the path to freedom and unity of the people. On January 9, 2025, as a result of an attack by an armed drone launched by the Turkish occupying state supporting mercenaries, our comrades Tolvin Şahin, Beritan Amanos, and Parvin Hasakah reached the rank of martyrdom.

We extend our condolences to the families of our martyrs, to our patriotic people, and to all our comrades. We send our greetings and pledge to remain committed to their path, fulfill their goals, and continue walking in their footsteps.

Comrade Fatima Sido, known as Tolvin Şahin, was born in the culturally rich city of Afrin. For her, life was full of meaning and values, surpassing anything else. Therefore, she embraced a life where she could create and live passionately. Outside the modern system that offers repetitive choices for women and every Kurd, our comrade Tolvin deeply believed that only the path of revolution could answer her aspirations and goals. Thus, she joined the revolutionary life with courage and purity.

Comrade Tolvin Şahin identified herself within the ranks of the YPJ, finding more meaningful answers to her inner conflicts. She reached the horizons of this passionate life, developed her awareness, and became strong with the revolutionary character of the movement. By undergoing specialized sniper training, she further advanced herself in the military field.

Comrade Safa Suleiman, known as Beritan Amanos, was born in a place rooted in patriotism and love for the land, in Afrin. She belonged to a resilient Arab tribe, the Al-Bakkara tribe. The spirit of rebellion inherent in her tribe greatly influenced her personality. For this reason, she never accepted the oppression inflicted on women, as well as on peoples and classes.

Her rebellious spirit led her to the path of struggle. She initially joined the ranks of the revolutionary youth and then moved to the ranks of the YPJ. She saw the spirit of unity among peoples more vividly in the comradeship of women, which became the foundation for building herself.

Comrade Amani Mohammed, known as Parvin Hasakah, was born in the city of Hasakah. As an Arab woman growing up amidst the cultural diversity of Hasakah, she found herself deeply connected to the issues of the Syrian peoples. One of her childhood dreams was to grow up and join the YPJ to defend women from all forms of attack.

Indeed, she joined the YPJ and developed herself within its ranks. She took revolutionary responsibilities as a core principle in her life and fulfilled them with dedication.

We, their comrades, remember them with great pride and reverence. To achieve the goals of our martyrs, we will continue our resistance against the occupation.”
