Til Temir without electricity due to occupation attacks

The power supply in Til Temir has collapsed due to the bombardment of numerous villages in the region in the north-east of Syria by Turkish occupation forces and jihadist mercenaries.

In the greater Til Temir area, the entire electricity grid collapsed on Friday night. Beforehand, the Turkish army and allied jihadist militias targeted a distribution station. According to a spokesperson for the local electricity company, a high-voltage line was severely damaged. This was the 28th attack on the plant since the beginning of the year.

The bombed distribution station is located in the village of Umm Kahf (Umm al-Keyf), a few kilometres west of the city centre of Til Temir. While there is a Russian base in the immediate vicinity, Moscow troops have not yet responded to the attack. In addition to Umm Kahf, the nearby villages of Tawila and Til Tawil as well as al-Aboush north of the city were also taken under artillery fire by occupation forces. In Tell Ahmar, a shell fired from the occupation zone reportedly hit a family's house. It was unclear until the end whether people were injured.

Til Temir occupies a key position in Turkey's occupation plans because the M4 runs through the town. The international traffic route is considered the lifeline of northern Syria, because it connects the regions of Euphrates and Cizire. Til Temir is one of the places in the autonomous region of northern and eastern Syria that are under constant attack. Since the invasion in October 2019, Turkey has been trying to integrate the Christian-populated town in the Khabur Valley into its illegal occupation zone and is waging a war of attrition against the population. Drones are increasingly being used in this aggression. On 18 August, a Turkish killer drone attack southeast of Til Temir killed four minors and injured eleven others. The target of the airstrike was a United Nations (UN)-sponsored education centre for girls in the village of Şemoka (Shamuqah). A few days earlier, two fighters of the Syriac Military Council (MFS) were killed by Turkish artillery fire in the north of Til Temir.
