Afrin remains occupied by the Turkish army and allied mercenaries since March 2018.
Turkish-backed factions continue clamping down on the residents across Afrin city and countryside through levies, looting and arbitrary arrests, reported the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR). According to the observatory, the Turkish-backed military police arrested a civilian (an artist and singer) and his wife who are from Kurda village of Jindires district in Afrin countryside for unknown reasons. It is worth noting that the woman was released later, while the fate of her husband remained unknown.
On the other hand, SOHR reported that Ahrar Al-Sham Islamic Movement imposed new levies on every resident in Kuran village of Jindires district who have olive crops or olive compressors, forcing them to give the faction two tanks of olive oil.
On October 22, SOHR sources said that Ankara-backed factions arrested a civilian, while he was in his olive field in “Sheikh Hitko” village in the district of Mabata in rural Afrin in north-west Aleppo.
Meanwhile, Ankara-backed factions arrested another civilian from the village of “Shoraba” in Mabata area from his home in Afrin city, and took him to an unknown destination, without knowing the reasons and motives behind this arrest, SOHR said.
