Two schools open for displaced students from Afrin in Shehba

The Kurdish Red Crescent, in coordination with the Democratic Society Education Committee of Afrin Canton, opened two primary schools in Serdem and Berxwedan camps in Shehba canton.

After preparations that lasted for four months, the Kurdish Red Crescent (Heyva Sor a Kurd) and the Democratic Society Education Committee of Afrin Canton opened two schools for students from Afrin, who were forcibly displaced to Shehba and accommodated in Berxwedan and Serdem camps after the occupation of their lands by the Turkish state and allied mercenaries.

The opening ceremony in the Serdem camp began with a minute of silence, followed by the speech of a member of the Serdem Camp Council, Rasheed Muhammad, during which he congratulated the opening of the two schools for all students and wished the students success in their academic stages.

Kurdish Red Crescent administrator Alia Muhammad stated that the two schools aim to allow students to be able to continue their education under conditions of displacement.

The area of the school in Serdem camp is 1250 square meters and includes 20 classrooms containing 114 seats. There are 700 students. The area of the school in Berxwedan camp is 2100 square meters and it includes 22 classrooms and the number of students reaches 1000 students.

Teaching in the two schools starts today in two shifts.
