YPJ fighter tells of the resistance in Serêkaniyê

Speaking about the Serêkaniyê resistance, YPJ fighter Ronahi Gever said: "We fought comradely and with love for life” and ensure they will liberate Serêkaniyê, Girê Spî and Afrin.

YPJ fighter Ronahi Gever, who was part of the Serêkaniyê resistance, said: "I was so impressed that the friends here had adapted with loyalty and love of life. The day will come, we will liberate Sêrekaniye, Girê Spî and Afrin again."

Speaking on the anniversary of the Serêkaniyê resistance, YPJ fighter Ronahi Gever said:

"I went to the battlefield on the 6th day of the resistance. We broke the circle of the enemy and entered the city. The Turkish army was using all war technology. They were killing everyone, from children to old people. Despite the technology, however, we managed to counter the enemy with our resistance, morale and enthusiasm. We went to the hospital on the 7th day of the war because we had injured people there. The enemy wanted to kill the friends in the hospital.”

YPJ fighter Gever added: “Despite this, the wounded friends were so brave and their morale and joy strengthened us. Many friends continued to fight even though they were injured. Although we told them to stop, they would continue to fight. Indeed, their determination had a profound effect on people. YPJ fighters played a particularly big role. The spirit of the women was revealed. This spirit had a huge impact on everyone, many young people and families were saying 'we will fight together with you'. They also understood; land is honor. Their homeland was where they were born and raised."

YPJ fighter Gever continued: "The enemy's attacks are still continuing. Because the enemy cannot tolerate the Rojava revolution. It can’t accept the truth and reality of the revolution. The Turkish army wants to disconnect from their land. Everything is now out in the open, they force a lot of people into Turkey. They are reaching out especially to young girls. The whole world is witnessing it, but nobody does anything. Nobody take a serious stance against these rapes, murders and genocidal practices. We will stand up against this enemy as long as we exist. We will always increase our struggle, especially as women.”

YPJ fighter Gever ended her remarks by saying: “It was with the feelings of love for life and our land that we went forward, a group of friends, broke our way through the mercenary’s line and opened a corridor. There were wounded friends who entered in this group. Here, the spirit of comradeship, devotion had emerged. This resistance has been written in history. I was so impressed about this devotion, love of life and adaptation even to the worst situations. Because this land had something spiritual for us. We had to do everything we could for our people. True, maybe Sêrekaniyê, Girê Spî are now in the hands of the invading Turkish army, but the day will come, when we will liberate Sêrekaniye, Girê Spî and Afrin.”
