TEV-DEM official: Dialogue is the key to solve the Syrian war

TEV-DEM Diplomatic Relations Centre spokesperson confirmed that no dialogue has been initiated with the Syrian regime.

Movement for a Democratic Society TEV-DEM Diplomatic Relations Centre spokesperson, Kemal Akif said that the only real solution to the war in Syria is through dialogue.

"We are ready for negotiations - he said - to reach a permanent solution to the war. However, no meetings have been held so far and no serious steps have been taken by the parties involved."

TEV-DEM Diplomatic Relations Centre held a press conference in Qamishlo to discuss the latest developments in the region.

TEV-DEM spokesperson, Kemal Akif read the statement in both Kurdish and Arabic.

In the statement the TEV-DEM Diplomatic Relations Centre confirmed that the occupant Turkish state continues to violate international law by carrying out abduction, extortion and torture in Northern Syria, and in particular in the city of Afrin and surrounding villages.

Akif said that the international community must fulfill its responsibilities and speak out against the ongoing attacks on civilians and the Turkish State’s attempt to modify the demographic composition of the region of Afrin.

The occupation carried out by the Turkish state on the Syrian territory is a great threat to the people living in the region, said Akif, who added: “The resistance of our people is continuing. We value the resistance of the people both in the refugee camps and within Afrin. Afrin will be liberated and the people will be able to return to their homes.”

Talking about the allegations of dialogue going on between the parties to seek a solution to the Syrian war, Akif said that “the Syrian regime has not taken a serious step towards dialogue so far". He added that the only solution is dialogue and the respect of all nations, cultures and languages.

“The time for the solution of the Syrian war has come. A democratic Syria must be built and serious steps should be taken by all parties involved. We are ready to begin negotiations aimed at a permanent solution to the war. But so far no meetings have taken place and there have been no serious steps taken from the parties involved."

The TEV-DEM statement added that a new constitution to be written for Syria should necessarily be a constitution that is democratic and embracing all peoples.

“Northern Syrian peoples should play a role in the work for the new constitution and they should fulfill their national duty against terrorist groups. It is not possible to have a new constitution if the peoples of Syria are not fully involved in its writing".

The statement ended by saying that “War is not a solution for Syrian problems. We declare our support to the people in the region where at the moment there are clashes between the regime forces and the mercenaries. We are watching with concern that people are being forced to migrate in search of safe zones”.
