Sümeyye Boz said that on 8 March, women will take to the streets.
DEM Party MP Sümeyye Boz pointed out that Abdullah Öcalan’s historic call will lead to a shift in the path and methods of the struggle, shaping a new approach and stated that women would play a leading role in building a democratic society.
Boz spoke to ANF and recalled Öcalan’s statement in his 'Call for a Democratic Society and Peace', emphasizing that the denial of Kurdish identity stems from restrictions, especially on freedom of expression.
Sümeyye Boz stressed that this process must now evolve toward democratic politics and that, on an international scale, the methods and lines of struggle need to be restructured. Underlining the necessity of building a democratic society in the current context, she stated that this effort should be carried out through parliamentary work, with the participation of all parties that have representation within society.
The struggle is changing and transforming
Boz said that Mr. Öcalan has been seeking peace and a legal framework for decades, stating: "This call is not a new one. However, the fact that it has now taken on a more concrete shape, with a more clearly defined framework, and perhaps intensified into a manifesto, is something we are witnessing in our era. Through years of resistance, the state’s negationist mindset has been challenged, reaching a turning point. From now on, the methods and direction of the struggle will evolve accordingly. The struggle is not ending; rather, it is evolving and transforming."
A consciousness of taking responsibility has emerged
Boz stated that society now sees democratization as a necessity and that awareness has developed regarding the need for everyone to take responsibility on the path to peace. She also noted that the opposition has been convinced of this necessity. Boz pointed out that the opposition acknowledged the call and taken initial steps towards supporting the process, emphasizing that from this point forward, the government must take concrete, clear, and serious steps. She underlined that while discussions about a solution are ongoing, military attacks must not continue at the same time. She said: "President Erdoğan has made statements about entering a new phase, yet there is a contradiction between his words and what is happening on the ground. The government must take courageous steps for peace."
Women can socialize peace
Boz emphasized the crucial role of women in building peace, recalling the significance of the upcoming March 8. She said: "Free individuals create free societies, and free women, as the pioneers of these societies, ensure that this process becomes more widespread and socialized." Boz also stated that the women's struggle for freedom is one of the fundamental dynamics of society.
Women will advocate for peace
Boz added that this year’s March 8 is being observed at a historic crossroads. She emphasized that women have always been at the forefront of the struggle and will play their role in building peace in response to Mr. Öcalan’s call. Announcing that women will take to the streets under the slogan 'Jin, Jiyan, Azadî', Boz added: "I invite all women to support the philosophy of ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî,’ to amplify the voice of peace in this spirit, and to make the March 8 demonstrations a space for both the struggle for women’s labor rights and the advocacy of peace."
