Berlin’s symbolic Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor) was illuminated with the iconic slogan 'Jin, Jiyan, Azadi' (Woman, Life, Freedom) to support the women-led protests in Rojhilatê (East) Kurdistan and Iran and to condemn Iran’s violent crackdown on protestors.
The decision came from Berlin Municipality. The upper part of the gate was illuminated with "Zan, Zandegi, Azadi" (Woman, Life, Freedom) in Persian.
Berlin Mayor Franziska Giffey expressed her support for Iranian women by sharing a picture of the illuminated gate on her social media accounts, writing that “I watch courageous Iranian women with admiration. Berlin is on your side”.
