As protests continue in Van province after the government’s usurpation of the DEM Party-ruled municipality, police forces continue their violent attacks against demonstrators.
The brutal crackdown by the police forces has left dozens of people injured, including the co-mayor, Neslihan Şedal.
In a statement on Monday, the DEM Party Women's Assembly said that dozens of people were violently detained by the police during ongoing demonstrations.
“Our Şırnak MP Newroz Uysal was attacked by the police and beaten. We condemn the attack against our member of the parliament,” the statement said.
“We will not allow you to legitimize the trustee regime that has been implemented against the will of women and peoples through oppression, detention and torture. Those who gave this instruction to the security forces that dared to attack the will of the people and women, and those who remained silent against the police violence that has been going on for days will be held accountable,” stated the DEM Party Women's Assembly.
Condemning the attacks against the people and elected representatives that exercise their democratic right to demonstrate, the DEM Party Women's Assembly added: “We will never give in to the fascist male power that tries to instill fear through a trustee coup and torture. We will never step back! Not the trustees, but the will of women will prevail.”
