March 8 in Kobanê: Women will fulfill their historical role

"With the will of free women, we will frustrate the policies of genocide, occupation and isolation," was the motto of women in the Euphrates Canton in North-East Syria on March 8.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Thousands of women in the Euphrates Canton greeted March 8, International Working Women's Day, with the slogan "With the will of free women, we will frustrate the policies of genocide, occupation and isolation". Women flocked to the celebration area in Kobanê from the early hours of the morning.

During the event, recordings of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's evaluations on women and their historical role were played. Zozan Bekir, Spokesperson of Kongra Star Euphrates Canton Coordination, said that they celebrate March 8 thanks to the years of efforts of the martyrs and commemorated the martyrs of freedom on this occasion.

Stating that women have taken historic steps towards achieving their freedom under the leadership of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement, Zozan Bekir said, "We must not stop in the middle of the road we have started. The world should transform the women's revolution in our region into a global revolution, and strengthen the struggle fought by women against reactionary forces for thousands of years. We will work until all the women of the world celebrate this day. Undoubtedly, the importance of this day can be understood by reading the ideas of Leader Abdullah Öcalan and his struggle for the freedom of women and society."

Eyşe Efendî from the Assembly of Martyrs' Families in the Euphrates Canton emphasized that they will lead the struggle for women's liberation to success and said, "We believe that women will fulfill their historical role despite great suffering. In order for this to happen, great sacrifices must be made in all fields; military, political, diplomatic, social and other fields. We are here to show that we are ready to walk on this path."

After the speeches, cultural and art groups from Vajîn Academy, Hîlala Zêrîn Movement and Baqî Xido Culture and Art Center performed their songs.
