The Women’s Council of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) is holding a workshop titled “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ (Woman, Life, Freedom) in the northern Syrian city of Qamishlo. The workshop is organised as part of the campaign launched under the motto “No to femicide, Woman, Life, Freedom”.
The workshop in the hall of PYD Headquarters is attended by women writers, intellectuals as well as members of the PYD Women’s Council in Qamishlo and the women’s movement, Kongra Star.
Jineology Academy member Sosin Yûsif, who moderates the workshop, said: “Woman is life. Life is female, as well as all the concepts of nature. Freedom extends to mother and the idea of cooperation is social. Nature identifies with women and godlikeness is an example of it.”
Sosin Yûsif pointed out that the slogan ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ was presented by Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan on 8 March 2013 and has become global today. Remarking that Kurdistan has turned into a center in terms of women, Yûsif continued: “It is the century of women’s revolution. Women should realize their own history. An instance in this scope is Jina Aminia who proved the fact that the existing system does not allow women to be free. Governments target prominent women and try to prevent women’s freedom, but their system will be demolished through women’s freedom.”
Sosin Yusîf added, “With the establishment of a women’s army in 1993, the leading women in the Freedom Movement have left a legacy based on the ideas of Abdullah Öcalan.”
A screening featuring the slogan ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ was made during the workshop where the attendees highlighted the importance of the philosophy of ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’. The participants of the workshop vowed to free themselves from patriarchal ideas and sexism and to embrace the women’s revolution in Rojava.
