The resistance of Grandma Ewaş from Afrin

Grandma Ewaş is one of the many women who had to migrate from Afrin. After losing her sister on the migration route, she remained all alone. Kongra Star has allocated a tent for her in Shehba now.

Large numbers of families from Afrin did not bow to the Turkish state and mercenaries, and moved to Shehba region where they continue their resistance since the invasion of Afrin by the mentioned forces. The displaced families in Shehba are waiting for the day Afrin will be liberated from Turkish invasion.

18 March 2018 is a day not to be forgotten by the people of Afrin. Every single family from Afrin suffered great pains due to the attacks of the Turkish state and barbaric mercenaries. Still, the people chose to resist against the invaders. That day, many residents of Afrin lost their life on the migration route.

65 years old Ewaş Mistefa is from the village of Umera in Afrin’s Mabeta district. Grandma Ewaş was living with her son and her sister Sureya Mistefa but they lost each other while moving from Afrin.

Since that that, Grandma Ewaş has toured the villages in Shehba region and received help from the people. She lost her sister on the migration route, and has never seen or heard from her since.

Grandma Ewaş fell and broke her leg on the migration route and her health is deteriorating since. Then, a family from Afrin took her to the Avrin Hospital in Fafin where she received treatment for 10 days.

Learning about the situation of Grandma Ewaş, Rojava Kurdish Women’s Movement Kongra Star officials lent her a helping hand and settled her in the Berxwedan Camp. Kongra Star also assigned someone to take care of her personally.

Kongra Star member and an administrator of the Berxwdan Camp, Emine Sileman stated that their basic duty is to protect women.
