In Qamishlo, thousands of women marched to condemn the international conspiracy and demand the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan.
Arab, Kurdish, Syriac and Armenian women from the entire Cizre Canton gathered in Qamishlo to protest the international conspiracy on its 26th anniversary and to demand the physical freedom of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan.
February 15 marks the anniversary of the international conspiracy that resulted in the capture of the Kurdish leader in Kenya and his handover to Turkey in 1999. Öcalan has been held in solitary confinement in İmralı Island Prison in Turkey since.
The demonstration promoted by the women’s umbrella organization, Kongra Star, was attended by women from all cities and towns, as well as members of civil society organizations, Autonomous Administration institutions and women's organizations in Cizre Canton.
The women started the march from two different points and merged at Heysem Kecho Stadium. The rally started with a speech by Kongra Star Spokesperson Rihan Loqo.
Rihan Loqo stated that the walls of isolation in İmralı were shaken as a result of 26 years of women's struggle and emphasized that the philosophy of “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Woman, Life, Freedom) developed by Öcalan has brought all conspiracies to naught.
Speaking at the rally, Estera Murad, Co-Mayor of Cizre Municipality and one of the executives of the Syriac Women's Union, stated that the Democratic Nation spirit built under the leadership of women in Northern and Eastern Syria will endure until the physical freedom of Öcalan is achieved.
Semer Abdullah, Co-Chair of the Economic Council of the Autonomous Administration of Cizre Canton, said that it was the will of Leader Öcalan that frustrated the international conspiracy. She called for the struggle for his physical freedom to be embraced, particularly by Arab women.
Anahid Kesebiyan, a member of the Armenian Women's Union, highlighted the pioneering role played by women in the current process and stated that Armenian women will continue their struggle for the physical freedom of Öcalan.
