One of the murders took place on 4 April in Maxmur (Mexmûr), where a 21-year-old woman was shot and killed by her brother.
On 6 April, in the Akre (Akrê) region, a woman was murdered by the man she was married to. Then, on 9 April, a woman was found to have been shot dead in Halabja.
The suspicious deaths include cases of women who reportedly died after falling into rivers or as a result of domestic accidents. One of them was Jiyar Mohammed, who was found dead in her home on 2 April in Bazyan, a district in Sulaymaniyah. Another was 20-year-old Reyan Osman, whose lifeless body was discovered in the Zap River on 8 April.
In the Kurdistan Region, only one woman was murdered in March, while two others died under suspicious circumstances. The recent rise in femicides is being followed with deep concern by women’s rights organizations and civil society groups in the region.
