In a written statement, the French Kurdish Women's Movement (TJK-F) said: "On 23 December, in Strasbourg, 25-year-old Yasemin Çetindağ, mother of four children, was brutally murdered by her ex-husband Savaş Özuyanık who accused her of seeing other men. TJK-F strongly condemns this murder."
The statement added: "While violence against women is increasing in France, there is no limit to brutality in the murders of women, which are now systematic. When a woman wants to make a decision about her own life, she is immediately targeted and can face violence and even death. Women who defend and struggle for the right to life are systematically murdered."
The statement continued: "Today, the state and the government represent the most organized form of this violence, which is nurtured by social sexism. Indeed, street and domestic fascism is nourished in order to prevent women's struggle for freedom, and daily violence and murder of women are not disturbed, but encouraged."
Violence against women, said TJK-F, "is the main issue and agenda of women all over the world. In order to overcome this violence, women need to come together and stand up, leaving aside language, religion, race and ethnic discrimination. Femicide is now a gender slaughter. For this, organized struggle is as important as bread and water for every woman."
The women’s organisation also underlined that "men should first resist against the violence and massacre culture belonging to the male domination and state power. As the killers are protected, femicides increase. We call on the whole society to say "stop" to the killing of women and raise their voices to say: Women! Let's stand up together for a freer life!"
