The occupying Turkish army has built a new base in the town of Amadiya (Amêdî) in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).

The base, which has trenches and shelters, was built behind the village of Guherzê (Guharz), about ten kilometres southeast of the town. Due to its strategic location near the western front of the Zap region, which is controlled by the PKK guerrillas, the base is likely to play an important role in Turkey's occupation strategy.

For some time now, Turkish troops have also been building a new ‘security road’ to Zap near Guherzê. A few days ago, the RojNews agency based in Sulaymaniyah published a video showing the relevant activities. A swathe that the military has cut into a forested area for the so-called army road can also be clearly seen.

According to the report, the peshmerga units of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) are also resorting to the use of axes and saws. The KDP, which is dominated by the Barzanî clan, openly collaborates with Turkish fascism and supports Turkey's occupation of Southern Kurdistan. In Turkey’s fight against the guerrillas, the KDP’s troops are effectively acting as a proxy army for Turkey.
