Turkish military deployment to Southern Kurdistan continues

The military deployment of the Turkish army to occupy the territory of Southern Kurdistan (Northern Iraq) continues.

Turkey has massively expanded its occupation operation in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq in recent weeks and is preparing its long-announced "summer offensive" against the Kurdish guerrillas. Massive troop concentrations have been taking place for weeks. Troops are being increased and tanks are being deployed in and around Amadiya in particular.

According to Rojnews Agency, a large convoy of Turkish troops and heavy weapons was sent to Amêdiye district near Duhok last night under the supervision of KDP forces.

It is stated that the dispatched forces are deployed around Dêrelok district of Amêdiye.

On 15 June, the occupying Turkish state army launched a comprehensive invasion attack in the Duhok region following the deployment of thousands of soldiers, 300 tanks and armoured vehicles. These attacks caused human and environmental disasters.

During the recent occupation attacks, 184 families living in Duhok were forced to leave their homes. Each of these families also owns vineyards and gardens due to the geographical structure of the region. These vegetable and fruit gardens, which consist of at least 4-5 decares, cover a total area of 830 decares.

In the last two months, Turkish attacks targeted 19 houses, 2 schools, a flour factory, a car, a church and 2 water plants in Southern Kurdistan.

At least 602 villages in the Kurdistan region of Iraq are currently threatened with violent evacuation as a result of Turkish expansionism. This figure was also confirmed by the local NGO Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT), which named 162 villages whose populations have already been displaced since the start of the Turkish "claw operations" in early summer 2020. In order to achieve the long-term goal of destroying the autonomous status of the Kurdistan region and securing Turkey's control over strategically important areas in northern Iraq, in addition to permanent bombings of guerrilla areas, the Turkish army is also carrying out targeted attacks on civilian settlements - under the guise of border security and an alleged "terrorist threat" to Ankara.

The occupying Turkish army also built 9 military centres in Behdînan. Since 2015, the Turkish state has built a total of 74 bases in Southern Kurdistan.

On the other hand, the communication lines and telephone poles of the Turkish state in the occupation bases have negatively affected the communication lines of approximately 110 villages.

According to the data compiled by the CPT based on surveys of the people of the region, 68 thousand acres of bushes and forests were burnt to ashes during the invasion attacks of the Turkish state.

As a result of the fascist Turkish state's attacks and bombardments targeting the whole of Southern Kurdistan with the aim of occupying and annexing it, many villages have been evacuated, the civilian population has been massacred, the nature of Kurdistan has been plundered, but the governments of Kurdistan Region and Iraq have still not reacted to these attacks. On the contrary, they meet with Turkish state officials every other day and watch the martyrdom of Kurdish civilians.
