In response to the attacks by the Turkish state and affiliated Syrian National Army (SNA) mercenaries against North-East Syria, women gathered in the Suruç district of Urfa and marched to the Kobane border.
Following the "We Defend the Rojava Women's Revolution" forum organized by the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) district organization, the march commenced under the leadership of women. Participants included DEM Party Women's Assembly Spokesperson Halide Türkoğlu, DEM Party parliamentarians, members of the Peace Mothers Assembly, the Amed City Theater (Şanoya Bajêr a Amedê), the Dicle Fırat Culture and Arts Association, the Women’s Culture, Art and Literature Association (KASED), activists from the Free Women's Movement (Tevgera Jinên Azad (TJA), and hundreds of citizens.
Despite obstructions by the police, the women managed to march from DEM Party Suruç district office to the border area, chanting "Bijî berxwedana Rojava" (Long Live the Resistance of Rojava), "Bi can bixwîn em terene Rojava" (We Will Defend Rojava with Our Blood), "Jin, Jiyan, Azadî" (Woman, Life, Freedom), "Rojava Will Be the Graveyard of Fascism," and "We Will Win Through Resistance”.
‘A model of equal and free coexistence is built in Rojava’
Speaking here, Halide Türkoğlu, spokesperson for the DEM Party Women's Assembly, denounced the ongoing attacks on Rojava, stating: "This place is where peoples defended Rojava in 2014. Today, we defend Rojava here again with the same spirit and determination. We remember with respect the 33 activists who were martyred in Suruç while on their way Kobane. The mindset that backed ISIS during the attacks on Kobane now backs the SNA. A model of equal and free coexistence is being built in Rojava. Peoples who have been denied for centuries are showing the world the life they have built. That is why all eyes are on Rojava, and everyone is focused on the model created there."
'We will defend the life built in Rojava to the end'
Condemning the “inhumane” attacks carried out by Turkish-backed paramilitary groups against Rojava, Türkoğlu added: "The autonomous administration established in Rojava is a symbol of peace and a libertarian life. We will defend this life to the end. The model created in Rojava should be adopted as an example. The crisis and chaos we are witnessing today stem from the failure to recognize this model. If a new administration is to be formed in Syria, it must include all peoples. This is exactly the model that the Rojava Revolution is based on. The Rojava Revolution has taken deep roots and spread to the world. You can no longer ignore it. We will continue to stand against genocidal and denialist attacks."
