Women’s Foundation, or solving problems through negotiation

The Sheikh Maqsoud Women's Foundation was established in 2011 to organize women and address and solve the problems they face.

The Women's Foundation has organized training programs for women in the Aleppo’s neighborhood since its founding and has worked hard to resolve the problems women face in their everyday life. The Foundation continues to work on women's law enforcement and women's defense.

Training and awareness courses

The Women's Foundation organizes various meetings and seminars for the organization and awareness of women. Issues addressed include marriage at a young age, prostitution, polygamy.

Training courses are being organized for the solution of all type of social problems women are forced to deal with.

The Foundation deals with all the problems and difficulties women are exposed to. When women apply for a solution to their problems, it is essential that the parties are brought together and a start a negotiation to settle matters peacefully and through dialogue.

The negotiators in the various cases are working in coordination with the communes and the Court of Justice. Problems that cannot be solved through a negotiated settlement are referred to the power of law.

According to the information given to ANHA news agency by the Foundation executives, the Foundation receives an average of 5 applications per week.

Literacy courses

Kurdish and Arabic literacy courses are also open for women who had no access to school. Thanks to the work of the Foundation dozens of women in the neighborhood have learned to read and write after having enrolled at these courses.

The Women's Foundation carries out social education by organizing meetings on the basis of advocacy of women's rights and social moral principles.

Perishan Rashid, one of the Foundation executives told ANHA that since the founding of the institution many obstacles have been cleared establishing the Foundation as the main address women in the neighborhood would turn to whenever they have a problem or need to deal with an issue.

Perishan Rashid underlined the importance of establishing a Women’s Foundation and reminded that “women are the vanguard of society. The society cannot be emancipated without the emancipation of women”.
