SOHR: Turkish-backed factions continue destroying Syria’s historical heritage

Occupation forces are excavating archaeological sites in the area from al- Bab city to Afrin in Aleppo countryside, searching for artifacts and archeological treasures by destroying Syria’s historical heritage for material benefit.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that factions of the Turkish-backed “National Army” continue with excavation work and digging archaeological sites in the area from al- Bab city to Afrin in Aleppo countryside, searching for artifacts and archeological treasures by destroying Syria’s historical heritage for material benefit.

In this context, SOHR reported that al- Hamza Division continues to search for antiquities in al-Ard al-Zarka in the Kreizat area of al-Bab countryside, where the leader Abu Azab al-Najjar has excavated areas by setting up tents in those places to dig and excavate those sites in secret, searching artifacts and treasures.

On the other hand, SOHR stated that excavation work has been going on in the archaeological hill of al-Bir in the village of Sheikho Raza in Afrin city, 7 km away from the center of Bulbul district, for three years by factions of the Turkish-backed “National Army” who have leveled the hill. The factions also cut down olive trees and bulldozed the land around al-Bir hill in search of artifacts and treasures. The vandalism affected large spaces in that area, the observatory added.
