YSK: Presidential election to go to a runoff

The presidential election in Turkey and North Kurdistan is going to a second round, as no candidate could secure the required number of votes in the first round.

Ahmet Yener, Chair of the Supreme Electoral Board (YSK), made a statement concerning yesterday’s presidential election, in which the three rivals, AKP leader Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, CHP leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and far-right alliance candidate Sinan Oğan and failed to get over 50 percent of the votes.

Yener stated that the presidential election would go to a runoff. The second round will take place on May 28, Sunday.

Yener announced the rates of the votes

Tayyip Erdoğan: 49,51 percent

Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu: 44,88 percent

Sinan Oğan: 5,17 percent
