Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MP for Hakkari, Leyla Güven, is on the 76th day of her indefinite and non-alternate hunger strike demanding an end to the aggravated isolation imposed on Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.
Following Güven, more prisoners joined the indefinite and non-alternate hunger strike actions in prisons across Turkey and North Kurdistan. There are also indefinite and non-alternate hunger strikes in place in Hewler in the Federal Kurdistan Region, Strasbourg in France, Newport, Wales in the UK, Toronto in Canada and the Hague in the Netherlands.
According to latest figures, over 250 prisoners are on indefinite and non-alternate hunger strike in Turkey and North Kurdistan prisons for 38 days against the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan.
8 more prisoners in Rize Kalkandere Type L Closed Prison have joined the massive hunger strike actions in prisons.
Names of the prisoners who have been on indefinite and non-alternate hunger strike in Rize Kalkandere Type L Closed Prison since January 5 are as follows: Murat Şimşek, Erdem Aktı, Özgür Eksik, Şiyar Kara, Orhan Şeker, Hüseyin Yıldız, Mustafa Türkan and Veysel Güler.
