Activists pay tribute to lawyer Timtik in London and Paris

Layer Ebru Timtik was commemorated in London and Paris. She died on the 238th day of death fast demanding a fair trial.

Members of the British Democratic Forces Union, including the British Alevi Federation, the Kurdish People's Assembly, Gik-Der, DAY-MER, Hundred Flowers and Tohum Culture Center, gathered in front of the Wood Green Library to pay tribute to lawyer Ebru Timtik. Activists called on everyone to act now to safe the life of lawyer Aytaç Ünsal.

In the joint statement read by Abdullah Gürlek on behalf of the DGB, it was emphasized that the demands of ÇHD member lawyers Ebru Timtik and Aytaç Ünsal for a fair trial were also their own demands.

Activists also recalled that while lawyers are kept in prisons, men guilty of raping women are set free.

An action was also held for Ebru Timtik in Paris. The Paris Democratic Force Union components participated in the action held in front of the Strasbourg-Saint Denis Arch.

Speaking on behalf of the Paris Democratic Forces Union, Cemal Doğan said: "The fascist Turkish state, boasting of being so powerful, became too small to meet a lawyer's demand for a fair trial and was defeated by the glorious resistance of Ebru Timtik, who became immortal on the 238th day of death fast.”

The statement added: “We will continue to step up our struggle against fascism in a more determined and courageous way for a free country where Helin Bölek and Ibrahim Gökçek will sing freely and wake up to those days of justice Ebru Timtik gave her life for."
