The curfew in Southern Kurdistan has been extended again. The lockdown is to last until May 1st for the time being, the Ministry of the Interior of the autonomous region announced on Thursday. The measure had been adopted for the first time on March 13 against the spread of the Corona pandemic. Since then it has been extended weekly. As the freedom of travel is suspended under the curfew, travel between cities within Southern Kurdistan is only allowed with the explicit permission of the Ministry of Interior.
The Coronavirus was first discovered in China in December 2019 and has since spread around the globe. According to the Ministry of Health, 338 people have been infected with the coronavirus in Southern Kurdistan so far. 312 of them have recovered, four people died.
