HPG: Guerrilla resistance in Heftanin continues

Guerrilla forces are mounting historic resistance against the Turkish military campaign seeking to invade Heftanin region in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq).
The Press Office of People’s Defense Forces (HPG) released a statement providing information on the Turkish occupation operation in Haftanin and the latest actions carried out by guerrillas in response.
The statement said that guerrillas targeted Turkish military units on move from Hill Şehid Berivan to Hill Şehid Dara on June 17. While the units were struck effectively, the number of casualties couldn’t be clarified. The advance of the Turkish forces was stopped here.
On the same day, guerrillas targeted an attack helicopter bombarding the area, and forced it to retreat from the region.
On June 20, guerrillas targeted Turkish units stationed on Hill Şehid Sipan. While the units were struck effectively, the number of casualties couldn’t be clarified.
On the same day, Turkish fighter jets heavily shelled the areas of Xantur and Geliye Pisaxa at night hours. The attack helicopters that moved towards the scene after the aerial bombardment, were hit by guerrillas and forced to retreat.
On June 18, Turkish fighter jets bombed the vicinity of the Sergele village in Duhok’s Amadiya district on June 18 night. Guerrillas suffered no casualties as a result of the bombardments, the statement added.
