The Turkish army attacked guerrilla positions in the Zap region in southern Kurdistan 21 times on Monday with chemical weapons, twice with banned bombs, four times with attack helicopters and dozens of times with howitzers, tanks and heavy weapons, according to the daily overview of the People's Defence Forces (HPG) on the war in Kurdistan.
The attacked positions are located in Çemço and near the village of Sîda in the town of Sheladize and have been the focus of the occupation forces since the partial withdrawal of the Turkish army from the Zap region in December. The area has strategic importance and the guerrilla armies HPG and YJA Star are putting up fierce resistance. In Çemço, a soldier was killed in an action by a mobile guerrilla team with heavy weapons on 16 January. Near Sîda, guerrilla fighters also struck a Turkish squad with heavy weapons.
According to the HPG press centre, the Girê FM and Girê Cûdî resistance areas were also attacked with Turkish artillery on Monday and Tuesday morning.
