Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Youth Assembly's 1st Ordinary Congress was held in the Bağlar district of Amed (Diyarbakır) on Sunday.
After the congress, held under the motto "Vejînek Ciwan (Young Resurrection)", the police attacked the participants. At least 30 people were subjected to violence and detained. The crowd protested the crackdown, chanting “We will triumph through resistance”.
In the meantime, Turkish Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announced on his social media account that an investigation was launched into the congress.
Accordingly, the judicial investigation was initiated by Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office with the allegations of "praising crime and criminal" and "making propaganda for an illegal organisation". The prosecutor’s office also gave instructions for detentions, it added.
