The KCK issued a statement to pay tribute to Qazi Muhammad and Mahir Cayan and his comrades.
The co-presidency of the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) Executive Council issued a statement on the occasion of the anniversaries of the execution of Qazi Muhammad, leader of the Kurdish people's struggle for freedom and founder of the Mahabad Republic, and the murder of Mahir Cayan and his comrades in Kizildere.
The statement reads as follows:
"We respectfully and gratefully commemorate Qazi Muhammad on the anniversary of his execution on March 31, 1947. He and his fellow fighters were some of the most significant and valuable pioneers that can be found in the history of Kurdistan. Qazi Muhammad and his friends represent historical models with their patriotism, bravery, courage, and self-sacrifice. The people of Kurdistan will always remember these self-sacrificing personalities and their struggle with respect and gratitude. It is thanks to their great sacrifices that the hope and struggle of the people of Kurdistan for freedom have remained alive and grown until today. Even though the Mahabad Republic collapsed after a short period of time due to the self-interested approaches of the hegemonic powers and the attack of the unjust, cruel, colonialist forces, it represents a historical peak in the struggle of the people of Kurdistan against genocidal colonialism.
The fact that Qazi Muhammad and his friends did not compromise their stance of freedom and did not bow their heads in the face of the attacks has also played a major role in the representation and continuation of the tradition of resistance in Kurdistan. The Carcira Square has a deep place in the consciousness of the people of Kurdistan. We will keep the memories of Qazi Muhammad and his friends alive in our struggle and will realize their goals. Based on this, we reiterate our promise to all the martyrs that gave their lives for the revolution, for freedom.
Today is also March 30, which marks the anniversary of the murder of Mahir Cayan and his friends in Kizildere. Therefore, we also once again respectfully commemorate Mahir Cayan and his comrades, the martyrs of the Kizildere Massacre. The struggle of Mahir Cayan, one of the historical leaders of the socialist movement in Turkey, and his comrades has undoubtedly created great results. While they gave a historical impetus to the socialist struggle in Turkey, they also played an important role in the development of the common struggle attitude and consciousness of the peoples against colonialism. On this basis, our leader and our movement have always attached great importance to the struggles and legacies of Mahir Cayan, Deniz Gezmish, and Ibrahim Kaypakkaya and the role they played in history.
Undoubtedly, the level of the struggle reached today by the strategy of joint struggle and the understanding of the peoples living together, equally and freely, is the result of this historical struggle. We believe that true devotion to the memories of Mahir Çayan and his comrades can only be possible through the further development of this strategy of struggle and the understanding of the common free life of the peoples. Our leaders ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’ is the call for the very democratic republic and free country that Mahir, Deniz, and Ibrahim fought for and gave their lives for."
