People of Amed: Leader Öcalan’s physical freedom must be ensured

Criticizing the state's failure to take any steps since Abdullah Öcalan’s call on February 27, Amed residents demand that the Kurdish leader’s physical freedom be ensured as soon as possible.

The “Call for Peace and Democratic Society” made by Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan on February 27th through the İmralı Delegation is still on the public agenda. However, although a month has passed since the call, the state is yet to take steps.

The people of Amed (Diyarbakır) spoke to ANF about the latest developments and the current process.

‘Öcalan is ready to step in for peace and a solution’

Mecit Urgay: The Kurdish People's Leader has always been clear. He has always been sincere in favor of peace and expressed that he is ready for peace and a solution. But the state has never been sincere. The Kurdish people listen to Mr. Öcalan unconditionally. That is why Mr. Öcalan has always been sincere and has always been in favor of a solution. Unfortunately, the state has always sought to save the day and time.

Mr. Abdullah Öcalan has done his part. His call gave hope and morale to the people. Mr. Öcalan is ready to step in for peace and a solution. But the state has not even taken a step yet. First of all, it must implement the right to hope and ensure Mr. Öcalan's physical freedom. Only in this way can the Kurds trust the state. If Turkey wants to become a superpower, it must make peace with the Kurds. Mr. Öcalan has created a new peace process for the peoples of the Middle East.

‘The state must be honest’

Veysel Atlı We have been in chaos for years. The resolution process is a positive process for both the people of the region and us. We don't want war and conflict anymore. On the one hand, there is talk of a resolution process, but on the other hand, warplanes are constantly taking off. We do not accept this. The state must be honest. Kurds have a leader and that is Mr. Öcalan. Mr. Öcalan has taken a step, the state must also take a step. We do not want war anymore.

Mehmet Salih Kızıl: We want to see a process where concrete steps are taken beyond just rhetoric. On the one hand, there is talk of peace, but on the other hand, warplane activity never stops. What kind of peace can we talk about? The state is not taking any steps for peace. The state must take a step as soon as possible. Leader Öcalan has done his part. Now the state must also do its part.

‘We don't want war anymore’

HaTanrıverdi: It is very difficult to summarize this matter in two or three words. Forty years of grudges and hatred have affected us all. We don't want war anymore. Nothing is achieved by dying. War will do nothing but take us backwards. We support this process, but the biggest problem is: how can we trust the state? We can no longer trust the state.
