Rewaz Fayeq, speaker of the South Kurdistan parliament, calls for dialogue in view of the military escalation between the PKK and the KDP.
Rewaz Fayeq, Speaker of the Parliament of the Kurdistan Regional Government, made a statement on the current situation on the official website of the Parliament. The PUK (Patriotic Union of Kurdistan) politician emphasized in the statement that only the parliament is the real representation of the people of Kurdistan and it rejects internal conflicts.
Stressing that an inner conflict is a crime against the high values of people, she said that the primary method for resolving conflicts is dialogue; “All sides should put national interests above everything else and party interests in the background. Kurdish people’s peaceful will that describes civil war as a crime and doesn’t see it legitimate, must be respected.”
Fayeq called for prudence, saying: "I appeal to all to put their peaceful minds in the foreground in this sensitive time and to take into account the high values of the people of Kurdistan.”
In a time that is already negatively marked by the struggle against the IS, the economic crisis and the Corona pandemic, there is more than ever a need for reconciliation, unity and social peace, Fayeq said and emphasized that the population expects a de-escalation of the tense situation from the opposing sides.
