Thousands of people bid farewell to YBŞ (Shengal Resistance Units) commander Pîr Çeko, who was martyred in a Turkish drone attack in Shengal on Monday. The body of the YBŞ commander was first brought from Khanasor to the family's house in the village of Belistên and then transferred by convoy to the Şehîd Dilgeş û Şehîd Berxwedan Cemetery of Martyrs.

Representatives of political parties and organisations as well as military associations and civil institutions attended the funeral. On behalf of the YBŞ and Shengal Women's’ Units (YJŞ), Tîrêj Şengalî gave a speech and said: "The Yazidi community has lost two commanders. Commander Pîr Çeko was a school of resistance. He was a disciple of comrade Zerdeşt and fought in all theatres of war after the genocide, from Shengal to Raqqa. He fought to avenge the Yazidi women. Although he was severely injured in the battle, he never took a step back and continued to fulfil his responsibilities. With his experience and courage, he reached the command level."

Pîr Çeko always knew that the enemy was targeting him, said Tîrêj Şengalî, adding: "But he was never afraid of the enemy's threat. He never paused for a moment. His path was the path that leads to the success and freedom of the Yazidi people."

Tîrêj Şengalî vowed to avenge the martyrs and said, "To honour the martyrs, we must become stronger. We must take a clear stand against betrayal and occupation. There must be no room for agents and traitors in the Yazidi community. The Iraqi state must also take a stand against Turkish occupation attacks."

The co-chairman of the Shengal Autonomous Administration Council, Heso Ibrahim, said: "The Yazidi people have lost two of their heroes. We will continue to pursue our cause until the last drop of blood."

Pîr Çeko's brother, Ekrem Ali Bedel, also spoke at the funeral and stated that the entire family would continue the struggle: "Pîr Çeko was not only my brother, but he was the brother of the entire Yazidi people."

After the speeches, Pîr Çeko's body was buried next to the graves of Merwan Bedel and Seîd Hesen. A tent was set up in front of the family's house in Belistên for condolence visits.
