Amed Bar Association applies to Constitutional Court demanding rejection of closure case against HDP

Amed Bar Association applied to the Constitutional Court demanding it to reject the closure case against the HDP and the political ban request against 451 party politicians.

The Constitutional Court (AYM) accepted the indictment prepared by the Supreme Court Chief Public Prosecutor Bekir Şahin on 17 March 2021, demanding the closure of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and a political ban for 5 years against 451 party members, including co-chairs Mithat Sancar and Pervin Buldan. An application was made to the AYM by the Amed Bar Association.

The application stated that party closure was a structural problem, and added that "the Imrali Talks, all activities carried out during the Solution Process period and the meetings held in Imrali within this scope cannot be the subject of proceedings, in accordance with the articles of Law No. 6551."

The application also stated that the freedom of political parties in Turkey was virtually limited by the official ideology, and added that "if the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights are implemented, the problem will be solved".

The application also noted that the demands of the HDP are compatible with democracy, and added that for all these reasons "the request for closure should be rejected".
