Asia-Pacific activists unite in call for status for N/E Syria Autonomous Administration

Asia-Pacific activists called for status for the Northern and Eastern Syria Autonomous Administration.

Solidarity activists, trade unionists and politicians from Australia and Asia united on July 19 around the global campaign calling for international recognition of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) by posting solidarity photos on social media with the hashtag #Status4NorthAndEastSyria and assembling them in a collage photo labelled "Postcard to Rojava".

Peter Boyle from Rojava Solidarity Sydney, which coordinated this regional solidarity campaign, said that activists from Asia and Australia were happy to join with members of the Australian Kurdish community in this symbolic action.

"We are all deeply inspired by the Rojava Revolution which has liberated millions of people in the face of war, dictatorship and the scourge of Islamic State (ISIS) terror. It is a beacon of hope for all who want a future centred on freedom, women's liberation and respect for nature.

"The freedom fighters of the Rojava Revolution sacrificed thousands of lives to defeat ISIS and the least the world can do in return is to recognise the AANES as an autonomous territory within Syria."
