Tuncer Bakırhan, co-chair of the DEM party, made a clear statement on the current political developments in Turkey at the parliamentary group meeting.

Tuncer Bakırhan underlined the determination of the DEM party to continue unswervingly on the path of democracy, peace and equality and said: "We stand firmly behind the message of Abdullah Öcalan. The time has come to build peace together."

Bakırhan condemned the appointment of trustees to the Akdeniz municipality, and the arrest of the co-mayors and council members under questionable circumstances. "The removal of the elected representatives and the appointment of a trustee are nothing but another blow to democracy and the will of the people," said Bakırhan, adding that the administration in Akdeniz had made progress, particularly in terms of proximity to the citizens and transparency, which would be destroyed by the removal of the co-mayors.

Lack of economic justice

The government's economic policy was another of the issues addressed by Bakırhan, who sharply criticized the use of money from the unemployment fund: "It is unacceptable that only thirteen percent of the money benefits the unemployed, while 87 percent is used to support companies. How can economic justice be achieved under such conditions?"

The DEM party will continue to draw attention to people's problems and offer solutions with initiatives such as the "Bread, Justice and Peace Assemblies".

International community responsible

Bakırhan firmly condemned Turkey's military attacks against Northern and Eastern Syria and the ongoing threats against the population there. Referring to Turkey's refusal to allow the burial in their hometowns of the two journalists killed in a drone attack, he asked: "How do you want to make peace with a people whose dead you show no respect for?" Bakırhan then appealed to the international community to push harder for the observance of human rights in the region.

Comprehensive and honest democratization process

On the issue of democracy, Bakırhan stressed that the solution to the Kurdish question can only be achieved through a comprehensive and honest democratization process in Turkey. He praised the cross-party support for a peaceful solution and called on the government to finally take concrete steps towards peace and reform.

In his speech, Bakırhan also discussed the role of the DEM party and underlined that the party sees itself as a representative of Turkey's democratic, social and patriotic traditions. "The DEM party is the voice of the people on the street who are fighting for justice, equality and peace. Nobody can dissuade us from this path," he said.

Support for Abdullah Öcalan's solutions

Bakırhan renewed his party's commitment to supporting Abdullah Öcalan's solutions and called on all political and social forces to work together for a peaceful future: "The time has come to reach out for peace. Let us build peace together."

He underlined that the DEM party will remain resolute in its mission to create a fairer and more democratic society, and said: "Our task is to raise awareness of peace, justice and democracy and to hold those who trample on these values ​​to account."
